WHAT IS A TOQUEON-(pronounced Toque-On)?

It’s a very special adaptation of a knitted winter hat Canadians call a toque and others call a Beanie or Ski hat. It was developed in The Yukon in 2006 to provide the very best in warm winter headgear that’s very distinctive and fun to wear!

Some dictionary definitions of a Toque for the curious:

A toque is a type of hat with a narrow brim or no brim at all.

They were popular from the 13th to the 16th century in Europe, especially France. The term comes from the Spanish word toca.

This spelling is often used for the tuque, an originally French-Canadian woolen hat worn in winter. This "fashion" originated when ‘Coureurs des Bois’-French traders who traveled through the wilderness in early Canada, usually for the fur trade- kept their woolen nightcaps on for warmth during cold winter days. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary regards the two words as being unrelated, with the "toque" spelling being a result of assimilation.
